SEA IN THE ROOM
In 2021, I have started to work on my debut feature film. The project of the film was developed in the workshop of the full-meter in MSNC with curators Maria Ignatenko and Dmitry Mamulia.
The main character Sonya has a birth facial defect. She goes in search of her own father, whom she has never seen. This meeting turns into a test for both.
In the debut film, I work not with the actual event, but with its trace in the hero's memory. The experiences of the past are captured by live, almost documented moments, and at the same time frozen, almost photographic imprints. I leave some space for abstraction and distortion, which allows the story to remain in the territory of unconsciousness, beyond linear eventfulness.
At the moment, the interior part of the film is ready, which was filmed in an old multi-room communal apartment, with a long winding corridor, with windows blocked, holes and cracks in the walls. This is a very borderline place, which in the film acquires a dreamlike imagery.
So, I chose a low-budget format of filming for the sake of preserving the intimacy of working with the characters and the opportunity for maneuver and experiment - many things and solutions are found through improvisation and a non-standard approach to working with speech.

Since this is an independent production, the film is open to any suggestions and collaborations.
